Jihad and Qital are permissible for the Muslims only in the name of Allah, and fighting for any personal cause, prejudice, property and wealth is nothing but mischief, said Jamaat-e-Islami former Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan while talking to journalists from Karachi and other parts of the country at Mansoora on Monday.
“We talk of Jihad, Qital and Infaq (spending) in the name of Allah so that the divine injunctions in this regard could be complied with,” Hasan said. He said had the culture of Jihad and Qital not been so widespread in Afghanistan, Britain, Soviet Union and now the US and NATO would not been defeated there.
He said that Allah Almighty had ordained the believers to always keep their horses ready against the enemy, and the idea was that the Muslims should never be unaware of the designs of their enemy. “Whenever the word Fi-Sabeelillah is added to the words Jihad and Qital, it simply implies doing these actions in the name of and for Allah,” he added.
Hasan said all those who were agitating on his statement on the issue, were in fact making futile efforts to mislead the masses and spread hatred by giving their own meanings to his words. They wanted to hide their misdeeds in the form of extortion and dead bodies stuffed in gunny bags, he added.
The JI former chief said that even the whole world could not prove anything done in compliance with Allah’s commands as wrong. If anyone derives a wrong meaning from any statement meant to convey Allah’s commands, he should pity his own ignorance, he remarked.
“Had there been full awareness about Jihad Fi-Sabillillah in the society, the enemy would not have taken us as soft fodder,” he said.
He said that in natural calamities such as floods and earthquakes, thousands of JI workers had always been in the forefront to provide every help and assistance to the affected people, and that too was Jihad in the way of Allah.
“Who are the people to wage Jihad against social evils such as poverty, ignorance, injustice and diseases, or in the service of the IDPs,” he asked, adding that the workers and volunteers of the JI were always seen helping their countrymen in every calamity and difficulty.
