IHC seeks report on security provided to VIPs

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought detailed report from Interior Ministry on security provided to federal ministers, parliamentarians, former government functionaries and other persons.

Senator Mir Israr Ullah Zehri versus federation case came up for hearing before IHC Monday.

The judge inquired from Interior Ministry deputy secretary about the rules laid down for providing security to federal ministers, prime minister, president, members of parliament and senators.

The deputy secretary said that president, PM, federal ministers and Judges come under the ambit of blue book who are provided security. Senators are not extended security. The matter of provision of security has become subject of provinces following enforcement of 18th Amendment.

The court directed Interior Ministry secretary to present 3-year record of Interior Ministry before it with regard to provision of security government functionaries and private persons besides filing detailed report before it in respect of all the decisions taken by committee under which security was provided to government functionaries and private persons.

Senator Mir Israr Ullah Zehri has filed petition on non provision of security to him by federal and provincial governments in face of the threats received from banned outfits praying the court to issue orders to federal government for providing security to him due to life threats being faced by him.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case indefinitely.
