The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the deputy inspector general of police (DIGP) Karachi South to conduct a probe into the allegation of killing of a detainee in a fake encounter by the paramilitary forces.

Headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh, a division bench gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Gul Muhammad, who had moved the court against the Rangers personnel for keeping his brother in unlawful detention.

The petitioner submitted that the personnel of law enforcement agencies had picked up his brother, Gul Hassan, from home on September 24 in Sajjad Colony, Saeedabad. Since then there was no clue to his whereabouts.

He told the judges that he approached the law enforcement officer to seek whereabouts of his brother but they did not give any information about him. He said he had also filed a constitutional petition in the SHC seeking his recovery from the unlawful detention which was pending disposal. Later, he learnt that Rangers personnel killed his brother in a fake encounter in an attempt to save their own skin.

He requested the court to order an investigation into the killing of his brother and order police to register a case against the Rangers personnel for killing his brother.
