ISLAMABAD-
A special court set up for the trial of former president Pervez Musharraf on charges of high treason accepted his plea seeking trial of three other alleged co-conspirators in imposing emergency on November 3, 2007 ; private media reported on Friday.
A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, resumed hearing of the case today and accepted the former president’s application in which he had requested the court to include former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, former law minister Zahid Hamid and former Chief Justice (rtd) Abdul Hameed Dogar; the co-accused in the high-profile case.
His request of including the top military leadership of that time was not accepted.
The court gave the federal government 15 days to submit a report to the court and file an amended challan in this regard so investigations can be started once again, including three co-conspirators.
“It was a historic decision by the court,” said Faisal Chaudhry, the counsel of Musharraf aid while talking to media representatives.
Following the court orders, media reported that Zahid Hamid; serving as the present Federal Minister for Science & Tech, has resigned from his post.
