The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday was moved to file treason case against Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad.
Petitioner’s lawyer Asad Manzoor Butt, during the proceedings commenced by Justice Shehzada Mazhar, requested the court to file treason case against Rasheed.
He accused the AML cheif of delivering provocative speeches against the state at the rallies which falls under the premise of treachery, therefore the court should order to file treason case against him.
The LHC forwarded the petition to full bench for further hearing.
Earlier, the government on November 14 expressed its intention to take action against Rasheed’s inflammatory speech that he made during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) rally in Nankana Sahib. The government believes Rasheed’s comments tend to incite violence.
According to the government sources, Rasheed incited the public against the government and state institutions.
Meanwhile, Special Anti-Terrorism Court termed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri proclaimed offenders for not appearing before court.
The arrest warrants against Khan, Qadri among other prominent leaders from both the parties had already been issued.
