SARGODHA-

Death toll of newborns struck 10 on Thursday as two more babies died at District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital in Sargodha due to alleged negligence of hospital administration, reported a private news channel.

On Wednesday, eight babies passed away within hours after birth due to lack of oxygen in the incubators and absence of senior doctors.

Bereaved families allege that negligence on part of the hospital staff has caused the deaths.

Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Iqbal Sami has refuted the allegations, claiming that he infants were provided with proper medical care. He added that an inquiry committee has been set up to investigate the matter.

At least 80 infants were admitted to the hospital which has only five incubators.

Last year, similar conditions in the hospital had led to loss of 191 young lives.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the event and demanded a report from secretary health.
