WASHINGTON-
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif held meetings with US senators and discussed bilateral relations during his first visit to US, according to a statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The COAS met with senators of US Senate’s Armed Services Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence.
Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Robert Corker, Senator John McCain and others were present in the meeting while COAS General Sharif was accompanied by Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani.
A day earlier, the army chief met Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey .
The top military leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral defense ties and regional security issues and, accoding to a statement by Pentagon, ‘they also emphasized the importance of sustained and substantive dialogue to develop the bilateral military-to-military relationship.”
