Airport attack case: Remand of three accused extended

An Anti-Terrorism Court-I (ATC-I) on Tuesday extended the remand of three accused, Sarmad Siddiqui, Asif Zaheer and Nadeem alias Burger, to police custody till 21st in Karachi airport attack case.

Police produced the three accused before the ATC-I judge amid tight security.

Investigation officer requested the court to allow further physical remand of the three accused under detention as the police wanted to further investigate them so that the whereabouts of their absconding accomplices could be ascertained and they could be arrested. The court accepted the police request and remanded three accused to their custody till November 21.

The IO submitted before the court that police released another accused Master Essa due to lack of evidences against him. Sarmad Siddiqui, Nadeem alias Burger and Asif Zaheer were in police custody before also from October 29 to November 17.

The crime investigation department of police arrested suspects belonging to Al Qaeda and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan on October 29 for allegedly providing logistical support, funds and weapons to attackers who stormed Karachi airport in June this year.

The main case no 87/14 was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief casing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage, etc), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at Airport police station.
