Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar has affirmed government’s resolve to carry out rehabilitation work for internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been adversely affected due the ongoing war on terror.

While talking to USAID Assistant Administrator for Af-Pak affairs Donald Larry Sampler, Dar said once the DNA estimates were finalised after the Zarb-e-Azb was over, a clear picture would emerge on the actual requirements for the rehabilitation and reconstruction work. US Ambassador Richard G Olson was also present during the meeting.

Dar said that government of Pakistan was intending to carry out rehab work in a centralised and focused manner with complete oversight mechanism to ensure transparency and accountability. This would help us avoid duplication, the minister observed. He welcomed USAID initiative for the rehabilitation activities in Waziristan area in future. There was also detailed discussion on USAID development projects in Pakistan.

Donald hinted that the USAID would be bringing in 43 million dollars worth of investment in energy sector in Pakistan which would help encourage further investment.

The minister also briefed the USAID senior representative about the recent visit of Afghan president to Pakistan. “It went very well, headway has been made in economic and trade relations between the two countries,” he added.
