Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued contempt of court notices to Health Secretary Ayub Sheikh and National Institute of Health (NIH) Executive Director (ED) Dr Barjis Mazhar Qazi and sought reply from them for not upgrading a grade 11 sub-engineer of NIH Chak Shahzad despite court’s orders.
IHC Chief Justice Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kansi took up Aqeel Ahmad versus NIH case for hearing Tuesday.
Muhammad Ramzan, counsel for the petitioners, appeared in the court and said that four months ago, the court while hearing the petition of Ahmad, Shamshir Ali and others had ordered the health secretary and NIH ED to upgrade the petitioners.
The petitioners’ counsel told the court that the petitioners were working as engineers in NIH since the last 24 years but the department had not upgraded them so far.
Upgradation is the constitutional right of my clients, he said. He said that the learned judge had issued clear orders that the secretary health and NIH ED should upgrade the employees in compliance with court’s orders but the court’s orders have not been implemented despite a lapse of three months.
The hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
