“A deliberate effort is needed to revert to the message of Dr Allama Iqbal to find solutions to all the ills that corrode our society and hinder our march towards progress and prosperity,” said Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar while presiding over International Iqbal Conference arranged by Awain-e-Iqbal Complex and Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage in collaboration with Majlis-e-Iqbal, Iqbal Academy and Eco Cultural Institute (ECI) Tehran at Awain-e-Iqbal on Sunday to pay homage to the poet of the East.

Chief guest of the conference Pervaz Rashid, Aiwan-e-Iqbal Management Committee Chairman Arif Nizami, Ataul Haq Qasmi, Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Orya Maqbool Jan and ambassadors and scholars from the member states of the ECO including Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Tajikistan Turkmenistan and North Cyprus, who were attending the conference as observers, also paid rich tribute to Iqbal.

The Punjab governor said that the Muslims of the sub-continent would always remain indebted to this great visionary leader for his invaluable services to infuse a new spirit in the masses. He said the people of Pakistan were lucky as they could benefit from the extraordinary vision of Iqbal.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said that Iqbal’s poetry gives message of love, brotherhood and sincerity. He said that no one can accept destruction, riot and chaos as code of ethics, adding that no human being has the right to kill his fellow human. He stressed the need for conveying Iqbal’s philosophy of life and message to the new generation.

He said that Iqbal’s life and teachings are a model of struggle. Quoting Iqbal’s couplets, he said that the philosophy of self-respect (khudi) of Iqbal urges a man to uphold his status, respect the humanity, save the lives and to achieve the cherished objectives of human being.

“Iqbal is our asset which enables us to look into future and improve our present situation,” he said.

Qasmi said that the nation has forgotten Iqbal’s message. He said the Muslims of the sub-continent would always remain indebted to this great visionary leader for his invaluable services to infuse a new spirit in them.

Orya Maqbool Jan stressed the need for conveying Iqbal’s philosophy of life and message to the new generation. He said that Iqbal wrote for the new generation.

A retired judge from Iran Muhammad Hussian Saken said that the poetry of Iqbal is for all human beings. He said Iqbal was the man filled with love for Prophet (PBUH), adding that he spread the message of peace and harmony.
