The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the Karachi commissioner to submit a report outlining action taken against milk sellers for selling adulterated and unhygienic milk at higher price.
A two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar gave this direction while hearing two identical petitions against selling of milk at hiked prices.
One of the petitioners, Rana Faizul Hasan, secretary general of a non-government organisation, submitted that the commissioner had fixed the fresh milk price at Rs 70 per litre but retailers were charging over Rs 80 from the consumers for one litre of milk.
He said milk retailers were minting above Rs 60 million from the consumers by selling milk at exorbitant price. Besides, he said adulterated milk was being sold which was injurious to human health. He said the relevant authorities had failed to maintain the milk price and prevent selling of the adulterated milk.
