Due to the implementation on the eight to ten percent reduction in transport fares, not only fares in transportation of goods will reduce but the prices of essential items will also decrease considerably, said Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yasin while presiding over a meeting at committee room of Civil Secretariat on Thursday. Besides additional chief secretary, Transport, Industry, Agriculture and Food departments’ secretaries, Special Branch director and all commissioners joined the meeting via video link.
Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, DG Khan and Bahawalpur commissioners told that banners of new fares have been displayed at bus stands of all districts whereas lists of new fares have also been displayed in the buses.
The meeting was told that checking squads are discharging their responsibilities efficiently for checking prices at petrol pumps. Various petrol pumps involved in overcharging have been sealed while owners have been arrested in different districts.
The commissioners told that not only heavy fines have been imposed on transporters for overcharging but their vehicles have also been impounded.
