ISLAMABAD-

The federal government on Thursday denied that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave a six-month deadline to eradicate polio from the country during a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee for the Eradication of Polio on Wednesday, private media reported.

National media on Wednesday widely reported the news of PM Nawaz vowing to end polio within six months. A spokesperson for the PM House however, has denied such reports.

The spokesperson added that the PM had ordered to take strong measures to control and eradicate the polio virus and fulfill the  international obligations in this regard.

In the meeting attended by the Chief Ministers of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkwa, the PM issued directives to make polio eradication a top priority in all provinces by ensuring quality campaigns and taking effective security measures.
