Six Ashura processions to be taken out in Rawalpindi

Six main processions of Zuljinah, Alam and Tazia will be taken out on Ashura from different areas of the city and the administration and will culminate at 10 pm at Imambargah Kadimi in Mohalla Imambara.

Police have finalised all security and other arrangements for peaceful observance of Ashura. As many as 7,000 security personnel will be deployed in the district to ensure security of Majalis and Muharram processions.

Fourteen companies of Army, 10 companies of Rangers and 40 platoons of Punjab Constabularly have been deployed to make the security of the processions and Majalis foolproof.

According to the security plan formulated in this regard, aerial surveillance of Ashura processions will be conducted to ensure the security of the mourners.

City District Government has banned pillion riding in the city to ensure foolproof security at processions and congregations.

Additional force of Special branch Police, Elite Force, Punjab Constabulary, Lady Police and Ranger along with district police will be deployed to ensure security especially on Muharram 10.

Strict checking of vehicles would also be made at entry and exist points of the city.

There would be strict monitoring of all the processions while 200 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have also been installed at various points.

Parking of vehicles will not be allowed 200 yards from Imambarghs.

No one will be allowed to stand on rooftops of the commercial and residential buildings situated along the routes of the main mourning procession while armed police personnel will be deployed on the rooftops of the buildings.

Special checking of the route of the Ashura processions will be completed before start of the processions and clearance from the bomb disposal squad will also be sought prior to the start of the processions.

The mourners will be checked with metal detectors and walk-through gates would be installed at the entry points.

The routes of the main procession of Ashura will be sealed completely and streets on the route of the processions will also be barricaded.

Vehicles and motorbikes will not be allowed to move with the mourning processions.
