The death toll from the suicide attack near Wagah border on Sunday night has risen to 57 on Monday as more injured succumbed to their wounds at the hospitals.

Over a 100 are said to be in critical condition because of the suicide attack near the border crossing between Pakistan and India. The bomber had struck near the food and tea stalls and the death toll and damage could have been tenfold had he managed to enter the parade ground.

Among the dead was a mother and her seven daughters who were visiting Lahore from Samundri. Their bodies were sent to their town for funeral, a news channel reported.

Bodies of three friends who had come to witness the Wagah parade from Karachi were also sent home for final rituals. The three boys were identified after their pictures were uploaded on Facebook.

So far, 44 bodies have been handed over to the families of the victims, while many are still held by the hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, sources in Rangers said they had recovered a suicide jacket during a search of the area.

  1. Does everyone understand that suicide bombers are always Muslim fanatics…it is only Muslims who believe they should kill themselves along with others for their religion…this sad state of affairs in Pakistan has numerous radical groups competing to kill, the most people…it is Muslims who must figure out a way to get beyond this self defeating mindset…the rest of the world just shakes its head in disgust at what is happening in pakistan…

  2. Does it make sense to kill ordinary people who were out just enjoying a Sunday afternoon to watch the border ceremonies? The enemy claims it was “revenge,” but against whom? Innocent women and children!

What kind of animals would target women and children and then claim responsibility for their senseless attack? Our condolences go out to the families of those killed and we hope and pray for full and fast recovery of all injured. Ambassador Olson in his condolence message said, “This act demonstrates terrorists’ blatant disregard for life. The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to the people of Pakistan in their efforts to counter terrorism, uphold the rule of law, and build a peaceful future for themselves and their children.” Ambassador Olson also said, “We support Pakistan’s efforts to bring all those involved in planning and executing this attack to justice and stand ready to provide any appropriate assistance to authorities investigating this tragic attack.”
