Mechanism devised to address consumers’ concerns: Abid Sher

Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali Saturday said that a mechanism had been devised to address concerns of consumers regarding electricity bills.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, he said a survey would be conducted on union council level to resolve the complaints of over-billing.

The minister said that the consumers would also be updated regarding electricity bills through SMS. He said a transparent audit would be conducted and every bill would be checked thoroughly.

He said the electricity connections of all institutions as well as individual consumers would be disconnected for not paying their bills. “It will not be fair to disconnect individual consumers’ electricity and spare departments”.

He said the electricity of the Capital Development Authority was disconnected on account of non-payment of bills. The minister said the electricity would not be supplied to any defaulter, adding that the government was pro-actively executing diverse programmes for resolving energy crisis in the country.

Abid Sher Ali said as a result of government’s commitment and efforts, the power load shedding had been reduced in the country as compared to previous years.

He said work on Neelum-Jhelum power project was underway and its first phase would be completed by 2015, adding that ongoing projects would be completed on time.

He said his party made promises with masses which would be fulfilled and targets set in this regard would be achieved. Abid underlined that the decisions made in this regard would be thoroughly monitored.

He said on the special directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif transmission lines would be upgraded further to improve power supply.

About setting up LNG projects, he said the government was committed to launch it soon to provide relief to the people.

The minister said the elements who had been staging sit-ins were frustrated to learn that the present government was heading to achieve the real goals of country’s progress and prosperity.
