- Three-day cabinet meeting to review performance of ministers, reshuffling on cards
A marathon three-day meeting of the federal cabinet would begin Friday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair to review the performance of different ministers ahead of the expected cabinet reshuffle.
The meeting, which was scheduled for today (Tuesday), has been rescheduled for Friday owing to premier’s busy schedule.
According to sources, one and a half years’ performance of all the ministers would be reviewed in a phased manner. All the ministers have prepared reports about their ministries in this regard.
Some of the ministers remained busy with senior officials for preparation of comprehensive reports reflecting their “extraordinary performance” during weekly holidays.
Sources said that ministers of important ministries would be given one hour while others 30 minutes to brief about their ministries. The sources further said that there would be reshuffling of portfolios of some ministers and a few would be relieved of their duties.
The sources added that some unelected advisors and special assistants would also be shown the door and elected members would be accommodated in their place.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister’s Office has also completed its homework about different ministries and the prime minister is expected to take to task some of his cabinet members for their failures on various accounts.
A source said that of the 20 federal ministers, a comparison report described performance of six ministers as unsatisfactory.
