Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak has called for revamping and restructuring of Information and Public Relations Department as he underlined the department’s important role in the modern age of information technology.
Khattack directed that steps be undertaken for the rehabilitation of Regional Information Offices with minimum essential staff, appointment of PROs for ministers and the uplift of the department in a phased manner ansd also sought a comprehensive report in this regard through the chief secretary.
“We do not want the department to work just as the government’s mouthpiece and give undue publicity to the government contrary to the ground realities.We want the department to project the government’s initiatives for development and public welfare activities, educating the masses, highlighting their issues and also to suggest remedies and giving awareness to them about their civic rights, responsiblities and how to benefit from the facilities provided by the government. The department should make the best use of media for this purpose,” maintained the KP CM.
Khattak was chairing a meeting to review the department’s challenges, liaison with print, electronic and social media. KP Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani, Senior Minister for LG&RD Inayatullah, Advisor to CM Arif Yousaf, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Ishfaq Khan, Information Secretary Hazrat Masood Mian, Information Director ImdaUllah, Press Secretary to CM Ghulam Hussain Ghazi were also present.
