As many as four shops were gutted while lumbar worth millions of rupees turned into ashes during an inferno at the Timber Market located in Liaqutabad on Sunday, fire department officials told APP.

The fire that apparently broke out due to short circuiting in one of the shops engulfed the surroundings also. People from the close-by residential blocks, also inhabited by some of the shopkeepers, started watering the place till the fire engines arrived at the scene.

Fire fighters successfully managed to prevent further spread of the fire and prevented any loss of human lives, because there are a sizable number of residential buildings around one of the major timber markets in district central of the metropolis.

Exact assessment of the material and property loss would also be made in a day or two, said the officials.
