Quota system in medical colleges

Recently Pakistan Medical and Dental Council announced the introduction of quota system for admissions in all medical colleges. According to the new rule there were supposed to be 50 per cent seats reserved for girls and 50 per cent reserved for boys. This policy was announced in the middle of the admission procedure when all the students had already purchased the forms. This is very unfair as the students should have been notified earlier. The students applied on the basis of open merit according to the prospectuses of the medical colleges. But in between this process the PMDC decided to change the rules.

This is a setback for girls who always acquire the greatest number of seats. If informed earlier the girls would have applied in other universities also to be on the safe side. But now all the admissions are closed and the girls are left with no choice. Also the girls who got their percentages in 60s would not have applied as their chances of getting admission have decreased due to the new policy. This policy is unjust and against the girls who worked really hard for two years in the hope of getting admission, but now they are in the middle of this controversy. I appeal to the concerned authorities to take back this decision immediately.
