After failing to get a green signal from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the opposition parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have decided to defer moving a no-confidence motion against KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak.

Addressing a press conference at his residence after meeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam- Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman said that the decision to defer the no-confidence motion was taken after mutual consultation among the opposition parties as he had talked over the phone with Syed Khursheed Shah, Aftab Sherpao, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Amir Haider Khan Hoti.

Fazl questioned as to why Khattak’s participation in ‘civil disobedience movement’ did not constitute sedition. He said the objective of the no-confidence motion was to prevent the provincial government from dissolution.

The JUI-F chief said that all the parties had demanded of the KP governor to stop Khattak from participating in ‘civil disobedience movement’. He said KP was a unit of the federation and it should be clarified whether the provincial government policy came under the ambit of ‘difference of opinion’ or was it tantamount to ‘confrontation’ with the federation.

Fazl also grilled the KP government over its alleged failure to control crime and curb violence in the province.

FAZL MEETS NAWAZ:

Earlier, Fazl met PM Sharif and sought his permission to enhance political contacts in order to move a no-confidence motion against Khattak. However, the PM stopped him from proceeding.

The PM stated that there were several political fronts open at the moment and no new issues should be created. He said the government would respect each party’s mandate wherever it is.

Fazl had suggested the premier to form a coalition government by passing a no-confidence move in the KP Assembly.

Sources said that Fazl told the PM that disgruntled assembly members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were willing to form a coalition government with JUI.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, KP Governor Sardar Mehtab, Akram Durani and Khawaja Saad Rafique also attended the meeting.
