The Orlando von Einsiedel-directed documentary will follow a team of park rangers as they try to protect gorillas in Africa. The film will look at the rangers’ struggles with poachers, militia and industry.
DiCaprio said, “Films like Virunga are powerful stories that are a window into the incredible cultural and natural diversity of our world, the forces that are threatening to destroy it, and the people who are fighting to protect it.”
Netflix’s Ted Sarandos said that the film will “have audiences guessing right up until the final act”.
The documentary will be released simultaneously on Netflix and in cinemas in New York and Los Angeles on November 7 in the US. UK cinema availability is yet to be confirmed.
