PPP senator advises Bilawal to bring forward fresh blood in party, says seniors should sit back and relax

Raza Rabbani says PPP committed to serving and fighting for democracy

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader and the country’s top lawyer, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Saturday advised the party’s young chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to come forward with a fresh party manifesto tailored to cater to present day challenges and needs ranging from education to employment for the youth.

Addressing the mammoth workers’ gathering at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Ahsan said it was time for the party leadership to review its past mistakes in wake of the loss of PPP in the recently held by-polls in Multan, especially when no complaints of rigging had been raised.

“We need introspection,” Ahsan said, calling upon young Bilawal to infuse fresh blood in the leadership.

“We, the seniors should now sit back and let young leaders take charge of party affairs. But you may consult us on matters whenever the need arises,” he said.

Ahsan said the PPP was the first political party of the country formed by a leader who was just 28 when included in the federal

cabinet of united Pakistan while his daughter was just 34 when she became the first women prime minister of the Muslim world.

“Those who criticize your age and inexperience forget that the Bhutto family has a legacy of young leaders,” he said.

Taking the stage, PPP’s Senator Raza Rabbani said revolution in Pakistan was brought by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his legacy was sustained by Benazir Bhutto.

“The torch would now be carried forward by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” he said, reaffirming that PPP is committed to the cause of democracy and constitution of the country and would not compromise on its principled stance.

Taking the podium, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said revolution demanded selflessness and sacrifice that was actually practiced by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

“Revolution are not brought through slogans,” he said.

Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani said PPP governments during its different tenures served the country and its inhabitants in a meaningful manner.

“Bilawal Bhutto Zardari represents the 60% plus population of the country that comprises youth and the PPP has to fashion itself anew so as to meet the aspirations of young Pakistan,” he said.
