Caravans arriving at Quaid’s Mausoleum for PPP rally

Caravans of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) started arriving in Karachi from different cities of Sindh to attend today’s large public gathering at Mazar-e-Quaid, a private news channel reported Saturday.

Camps have been set up at various entry points of the city to welcome the caravans.

Workers from within Karachi are also arriving at the rally through a bus service arranged by the party.

Around a thousand workers of PPP from Lahore and Rawalpindi travelling on trains will also be taking part in the rally . The party has reportedly paid a sum of Rs 2.5 million to the Pakistan Railways  for the train service.

Tight security arrangement have been made for the rally which will be addressed by party patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the only son of former president Asif Ali Zardari and slain PPP chairperson and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Cellular phone services are also suspended in the city today.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah along with other party leaders visited the venue early today to inspect the preparations of the rally. Bomb disposal squad also visited the venue and searched the area.

A public holiday has been announced by the Government on the eve of Urs of Sufi Saint Abdullah Shah Ghazi.

PPP has organized the rally to launch the political career of Bilawal and mark the seventh anniversary of Oct 18, 2007 bombing which occurred in Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming rally near Karsaz.
