Former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf on Thursday said Pakistan needs to incite those fighting in Kashmir, India Today has reported.

“We have source (in Kashmir) besides the (Pakistan) army…People in Kashmir are fighting against (India). We just need to incite them,” Musharraf told a TV channel in an interview.

Musharraf, who assumed power in 1999 soon after the Kargil conflict as hostilities erupted between Indian and Pakistani troops in the area, claimed that the Pakistan Army is ready for war with India. But He cautioned India against any misadventure.

“India should not be under the illusion that Pakistan will not hit back,” he warned.

“In Kashmir, we can fight with the (Indian) army from both the front and back…We are Muslims. We will not show the other cheek when we are slapped. We can respond tit for tat,” he said, while commenting on the recent firing along the Line of Control and working boundary.

At least 12 people have been killed since India resorted to ‘unprovoked’ firing on the border. The Pakistan Army has repeatedly affirmed that they have replied “befittingly” to the heavy firing and mortar shelling. However, the government has called for the matter to be resolved through dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and working boundary between India and Pakistan although common have been unusual in their intensity and frequency this time.

The former army chief explained that external aggression happens only when the country remains weak internally.

“If we remain strong internally, no one can dare to target us,” he asserted.

Musharraf also lashed out at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he did not only reserve his criticism for the Hindu-nationalist leader, censuring Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for attending Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi in May this year.

“Modi is anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan. He has not changed. The problem is with us… We are running to attend his (Modi) inauguration, we should keep our dignity.”

  1. Great General Sahib is back on their favorite Occupation to protect interests of Ir Pakistan and of Muslims all over the world they call to help and support the struggle of our Kashmiris brothers Saluts Sir, Go Nawaz Go

    • Huh, he is the terrorist himself!!! Reason for Pakistan;s failure in all direction!! Not even a true Muslim who believe in violence and creating violence all over the region!!! Look at your economy, look at the future of Pakistan along with the future of your country people. He says so because he cant do any thing else great besides creating violence. Its in his blood, its a disease which he cant cure. He has forgotten Islam and don't give damn about his country otherwise he was focusing on more big real issue within his own country!!!!

  2. Musharaff's history verses India –
    1. Siachin operation by the Pakistani SSG – ended in failure.
    2. Kargil – another disaster and total failure.
    3. Attempt to play "leader" and get Kashmir – failure.

What Musharaff has to say about India is a joke. We (indians) can only hope he carrys on what ever he plans – because we can be comforted that it too will end in failure.

As to "inciting" Kashmiri "freedom fighter" – perhaps the TENS of THOUSANDS of corpses of Kashmiris who tried to fight and lost – will remind Musharraf how successful past attempts to "incite freedom fighters" has been!

  3. Leave Musharraf aside. Just answer two questions; why Kasmiris are not given the same rights like the majority Hindus of Hyderabad ? Has the issue being resolved according to the UNO charter ? It really does not matter if India is strong, or Pakistan is weak. What matters is, what the Kashmiris want. Let there be a fair referundum in Pakistani & Indian administered Kashmir. Any more questions ?

  4. PT editors, you can call Musharraf a dictator 1000 times, but I am yet to know one dictator who hands over the power to a democratically elected government without any bloodshed. Please enlighten me if I am wrong. Otherwise you should chose your words carefully.
