The Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday de-notified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Dewan Aashiq Bukhari after a decision by the Bahawalpur election tribunal.

Bukhari had participated in the May 2013 general elections on a PML-N ticket from NA-153 in sub district Shujabad and the Jalalpur Peer Wala district of Multan.

His election was challenged by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Rana Qasim Noon, who had contended that Bukhari’s degree was fake and requested that he should be declared ineligible to run in the upcoming elections.

The application stated that all the educational credentials of Bukhari, from Intermediate to Masters were invalid.

Subsequent investigations by the Bahawalpur election tribunal found merit in Noon’s allegations. As a result, the ECP has de-notified Bukhari’s membership from the National Assembly.
