The extensive use of “gullu” in political circles is apparently not enough to qualify the word for inclusion in Oxford Dictionaries.
“At present gullo does not meet the entry criteria required for including a word in Oxford Dictionaries,” Oxford University Press (OUP) Managing Director Ameena Saiyad stated Tuesday.
The press has one of the largest and most wide-ranging language research programmes in the world, and it publishes an extensive range of dictionaries, she said.
New words, senses, and phrases are added to dictionaries such as OxfordDictionaries.com and the Oxford English Dictionary once editors have gathered enough independent evidence from a range of sources to be confident that these words have widespread use in English over time, she said.
