There is no difference between environmental pollution and terrorism as pollution also poses grave threat to the country.
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar said this while speaking at the 11th environment excellence award ceremony organised by the National Forum for Environmental and Health (NFEH) in collaboration with Bahria Town, OGDLC, Parco and others at a local hotel in Lahore.
NFEH President Mohammad Naeem Qureshi, Chairman Dr Qaisar Waheed, Make A Wish Foundation President and Textile City Chairman Mirza Ashtiaq Baig, Manager Country Transport Project of NUDP Saleem Janjua and Khalid Iqbal were among prominent personalities who attended the award ceremony. The governor distributed awards among 70 leading industrial and commercial organisations for making struggle for implementation of best environmental activities, observance of environmental standard and law. He lauded the innovative efforts made by NFEH and other organisations in environment conservation and protection.
Sarwar said: “No priority was given to environment pollution in the past as our politicians and bureaucrats showed poor performance and that is why we are bearing the brunt of it. Some 50,000 people die every year in Pakistan and the country faces $370 million economic loss.”
He also hailed the efforts of eco-friendly organisations for trainings, awareness, implementation of environmental laws, and assured his cooperation.
On the occasion, speakers informed about the challenges and strategies for sustainable development. Naeem Qureshi informed about the aim of environmental awards given to industrial and commercial organisations, which had increased the quality of environment over the last 11 years owing to the support of organisations in this regard.

Good to know that at least someone is concerned about this hazard. There is a need to update laws on installation of smoke filters and disposal of waste.
