The business community of Islamabad led by FPCCI Vice President Munawar Mughal and ICCI President Shaban Khalid staged a demonstration outside Kohsar Police Station to condemn the “police brutality” on traders’ leader Ajmal Baloch and called for urgent removal of Islamabad SSP Asmatullah Junejo.
The protesters also demanded immediate withdrawal of police FIR against Ajmal Baloch. They chanted slogans against “Gullusim” of Islamabad Police and vowed that they would not tolerate inhuman approach of police who is public servant and is responsible for protecting the lives and properties of citizens.
Addressing the protesters, Munawar Mughal said that Junejo should be terminated immediately, notification of suspended police officials should be issued without delay and thorough investigation should be conducted against those police officials who were responsible for beating of Ajmal Baloch. He said strong protest movement will be launched against the police if urgent measures were not taken to meet the demands of business community.
ICCI President Shaban Khalid, ICCI SVP Khalid Chaudhry, former ICCI presidents Abdul Rauf, Khalid Javed, Mian Akram Farid, Nasir Khan, Ejaz Abbasi, Zahid Maqbool and presidents of various markets including Rana Qadeer, Tahir Abbasi, Mian Khalid, Sarfraz Mughal, Raj Abbasi and many others also addressed the demonstration.
They said that Punjab Police should be kept away from Islamabad Police as its mixing with it was also producing “Gulluism” in Islamabad Police due to which the recent actions of Islamabad Police has badly tarnished its image and created trust deficit between the citizens and the police.
It was decided that the next protest demonstration will be held in Aabpara Market on September 29 at 2:30 pm. The entire business community vowed that it would not tolerate the uncalled for behaviour of police and would take all possible measures for the protection of their rights.
They expressed strong solidarity with Baloch and also called for registration of FIR against those police officials who were involved in the attack on Baloch.
