CM working day and night to provide relief to masses

*Shahbaz addresses joint meeting of cabinet committees on flood and price control

*Reviews relief and rehabilitation activities in Hafizabad through video link

Punjab government has decided to provide job opportunities to the youth of flood affected areas at local level, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while addressing a joint meeting of Cabinet Committee on Flood Relief and Cabinet Committee on Price Control on Sunday.

The chief minister also reviewed relief and rehabilitation activities in District Hafizabad through video-link and issued necessary instructions.

Provincial ministers Shuja Khanzada, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Bilal Yasin, Advisor Khawaja Salman Rafique, Punjab government Spokesman Zaeem Hussian Qadri, Punjab Assembly Member Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, chief secretary, Board of Revenue senior member and officials concerned attended the joint meeting whereas Federal Minister Saira Afzal Tarar, Gujranwala commissioner, Hafizabad DCO and other officials concerned attended the meeting through video link.

Shahbaz said that first instalment of compensation of losses will be paid to the affected families by the end of this month. He said that instructions have been issued to all departments concerned in this regard whereas third party audit of the survey of losses caused to houses, crops and cattle will be conducted. He said that the survey will be completely transparent and authentic.

The chief minister said that monitoring committee has been constituted at provincial level to monitor all matters. He directed that the accumulated water in affected areas should be drained out by the end of this month. He said that irrigation secretary and agriculture secretary should ensure implementation of action plan to drain the accumulated water. He directed that planning should be done to remove silt from affected areas.

He said that the work of provision of clean drinking water to all flood-hit areas of the province should be completed within next seven days. He said that special attention should be paid to mother and childcare, adding that affected roads, schools, health centres and other facilities should be restored at the earliest.

He said that elected representatives and administration should work hard with devotion.

SHAHBAZ WANTS RESULT ORIENTED EFFORTS:

Claiming he wants only results, Shahbaz said that those serving the distressed brethren are eligible to remain on their posts. He warned that strict action will be taken against those officers providing wrong figures. He said that all districts should know about the launching of website at district level, adding that district website should be kept updated and warned of strict action in case of negligence.

CM TO PAY SURPRISE VISITS:

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the departments concerned to initiate rehabilitation work in the flood-hit areas at the earliest.

In a statement, the chief minister said he himself is monitoring the relief and rehabilitation work in the affected areas.

Shahbaz said he would pay surprise visits the affected areas to review relief work. He said the unannounced visits provide an opportunity to know actual ground realities and have better information about the problems being faced by the affectees.

The chief minister appreciated the untiring work of those who are helping the flood affectees.

NO COMROMISE ON QUALITY:

The chief minister said that no compromise will be made on the provision of quality essential items, vegetables and fruits to the people at reasonable rates. He said that the Cabinet Committee on Price Control should discharge its responsibilities efficiently for providing edibles in abundance to the people and strengthening their prices. He said that indiscriminate action should be taken against the profiteers and hoarders. During the briefing, the chief minister was informed that the Irrigation department has restored six canals while the remaining canals will soon be restored. The meeting also offered fateha for the departed soul of mother of PDMA former DG Zaheer Abbas.
