Court seeks govt’s reply on petition seeking registration of murder case against PM, Punjab CM, others

While hearing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s petition seeking registration of protesters’ murder case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other functionaries, Islamabad Additional Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand has sought reply from the government.

The petitioner has claimed that four PTI workers were killed and hundreds were injured due to police violence during their “peaceful march” to Prime Minister’s House. He asked the police station concerned to register the incident’s case but they did not do so, therefore, he resorted to the court, he pleaded, praying the court to order the police to register case against the Sharif brothers, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, former Islamabad inspector general and others.

During the case hearing, Secretariat Police requested the court to dismiss the petition, claiming that it was based on mala fide intent: “To gain publicity and sensationalising the situation”.

Attorney General (AG) Salman Aslam Butt and government’s counsel Sardar Ishaq also appeared in the court. They prayed the court to hear their objections on the petition first. The court ordered that a reply including its objections be filed by the government till next hearing of this case.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till September 27.
