Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has constituted a three-member committee to ascertain and identify the most attractive tourist sites of Sukkur division and prepare phase-wise plan for the development, projection and operationalise these sites.
The committee will be headed by special assistant for culture with secretary culture and commissioner Sukkur as the members, a handout said.
The chief minister decided this while taking a briefing about the tourist sites and their status from the officials of revenue department at the Circuit House on Friday. Talking on the occasion, the chief minister said that Sindh was traditionally and culturally a rich province of Pakistan. He said Sindh had many sites similar to sites in other countries and popular for tourism. He said that their tourist sites were not being maintained due to lack of interest. He said only Sukkur had historical structures like Sukkur Barrage, Lansdowne Bridge, Sadhu Bella, Tombs of Seven Sisters and many others but all of these have not been projected, exploited and utilised.
Shah said that the PPP chairman was taking keen interest in the promotion of tourism. He planned world-wide projection of Mohenjodaro through a cultural show but it was un-necessarily criticised.
He said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also directed for launching such projects. He said they tried their best to develop the Gorakh Hills through public-private partnership but the private sector was not responded and finally they made their own investment there. Now tourists had facilities at Gorakh Hills and they were striving to get it promoted further, he added.
He asked the officers to identify the tourist points, prepare PC-1 for their development and invest in public site, create an environment for the promotion of tourist site and make it attractive for the private sector. He said the government had spared development funds for culture and tourism department and they wished to encourage them in their future planning.
During the meeting, Sindh Minister for Excise Mukesh Kumar Chawla announced a motor boat for the visitors of Sadhu Bella which was lauded. Besides Chawla, MPAs Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Syed Awais Shah, IG Police Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali and Commissioner Sukkur Division Muhammad Abbas Baloch also attended the meeting.
