- Musharraf credits Army for Punjabi Taliban’s renouncement of violence
- Criticises PML-N govt for inefficiency; urge immediate end to political impasse
All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief and former president General (R) Pervez Musharraf has welcomed the decision of the Punjabi Taliban to renounce militancy and termed it a big success on part of the Pakistan Army.
Talking to the APML general secretary Dr Amjad on phone, Musharraf said the efforts of the Pakistan Army to end terrorism in the country through operation Zarb-e-Azb were commendable. He said improved law and order will improve foreign investment in the country which will help improve economy.
The APML chief said the government should also strengthen the hands of the Pakistan Army and work seriously for political stability. He said it is not the job of the government to torture peaceful protesters and create a ModelTown like incident. He said depriving the PTI and PAT activists from the right to peaceful protests in the name of Section 144 was an example of worst civilian dictatorship. He said even the sound operator of the PTI and personal guards of Dr Tahirul Qadri have been arrested which shows the rulers’ authoritarian mindset.
Musharraf said the government was employing different tactics to prolong the deadlock to hide its inefficiencies. They said the government was also creating difficulties for the mediators.
The APML chief said the protective dykes were broken from several places and infrastructures was damaged unnecessarily. He said the nation should understand that those sticking with power for the last 35 years can’t see anything beyond Raiwind and Lahore.
He said huge funds were wasted on metro buses and flyovers. He said if these funds were used for protective dykes and protection of river sides then such a big loss could have been averted.
The APML chief said the aristocratic style of rule of the rulers was evident from the fact that the prime minister along with his cabinet ministers were found unaware of the billions of rupees inflated power bills this month.
The former president expressed sympathy with the flood victims.
