The Lahore High Court (LHC) has refused to provide judicial officers in connection with by-polls on the National Assembly (NA) seat vacated by Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.

According to details, by-polls are to be held on NA-149 which has fallen vacant due to resignation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi. The Election Commission had sent a letter to LHC requesting that judicial officers be appointed for the by-polls.

The court refused to deploy judicial officers, saying that under the Judicial Policy 2009, permission was accorded for appointment of judicial officers for one time only during the general election 2013, and such permission cannot be accorded now.

After receiving the written reply from LHC, the Election Commission has decided to appoint officers of district administration during by-poll in NA-149.
