Former president Asif Ali Zardari has called upon the countrymen to adhere to democracy, constitutionalism and egalitarianism, suggesting that any political change must be brought through ballot and not through bullet or baton wielding mobs.
In his message of the eve of death anniversary Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the former president said that Jinnah had envisioned a democratic and progressive Pakistan where every citizen have equal opportunities to advance without any prejudice of religion, cast and creed and where there is tolerance to political dissent and disagreements.
“Adherence to the principles of democracy demands that we defeat the militant mindset as well as the mindset that seeks to bring political change through mob attacks on state institutions on the one hand and showing tolerance and accommodation to dissent on the other,” he said.
“We must guard against those who seek to destroy the very fabric of the state by force to super impose their obscurantist agenda on the people in the name of religion. We should also fight the tendency of intolerance to political dissent,” he said.
“We reiterate today our resolve to carry on the struggle for strengthening the democratic polity and social justice and banish militancy,” he said.
“The Pakistan Peoples Party reiterates its resolve to fight extremism and assures the people that every worker of the party will continue to struggle for making Pakistan a truly democratic, just and pluralistic society free of the scourge of extremism and militancy and intolerance.”
Zardari also paid homage to those who laid down their lives and rendered huge sacrifices for the achievement of Pakistan as well for preserving democracy and constitutionalism and in fighting the militancy.
Zardari and Nawaz Sharif like it or not he real change for a progressive and a better Pakistan is surely taking place with people asserting their basic rights. People of Pakistan will not settle for any less inshallah.
