In a bid to patch up with the families of victims of Lahore’s Model Town incident in which about 14 people lost their lives, the Punjab government has reportedly acquired the services of influential personalities to convince the victim families to forgive the responsible in return for ‘diyat’ (compensation money).

As per details, complete information about the victims including their names and addresses has been obtained; however, the names of the negotiators have not been disclosed.

Any type of settlement reached with the victim families will also be kept secret and legal opinion about bringing or not bringing the agreement before the public will also be obtained.

However, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) is also alert to the whole situation and it has tasked important members of the party to keep contact with the heirs of the victims of Model Town tragedy to keep themselves abreast about the developments.

According to reports, the federal government has advised the Punjab government to pay Rs 10 million compensation to the families of each victim of Model Town and offer government jobs to their children.
