Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi Monday said that his party did not present the “minus-one formula” before the government.
Addressing a joint press conference after meeting a Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) delegation, Qureshi said that the dialogue process was halted at the moment due to government’s “inflexible approach” over the matter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation. He said PTI chief Imran Khan had showed “extreme flexibility” and would “not bow anymore”.
“Earlier, it was assumed that PTI’s sit-in was inviting a ‘third force’ to intervene and derail democracy but this assumption has been proved wrong,” the PTI leader said, expressing concerns over JUI-F chief Fazalur Rehman’s statements and pro-government rallies, as it could aggravate the situation and spread violence.
When asked about Supreme Court’s order to vacate Constitution Avenue, he said that PTI workers would give way to esteemed judges.
Speaking on the occasion, JI chief Sirajul Haq said that “both sides” had shown flexibility and they were optimistic about a positive outcome. He said the deadlock would be solved through negotiations and the “elements who were expecting violence” would surely be disappointed. He said country’s economy had suffered while thousands IDPs were also suffering as the nation was busy protesting.
