As protesters continue sit-in outside the parliament demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, Sindh Assembly members belonging to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decided on Monday to submit their resignations.
Senior PTI leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Arif Alvi will reach Karachi today to submit resignations. It may be mentioned here that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has four seats out of the total 133.
Earlier on Friday, 34 PTI MNAs including Imran Khan resigned to step up pressure on the Nawaz Sharif government. However, the resignations do not affect the stability of the government which enjoys a majority with ruling PML-N having 190 members in a House of 342. Khan’s PTI is the third largest party in the National Assembly.
The anti-government protests in Pakistan are in their second week with thousands of supporters of PTI chairman Imran Khan and Canada-based cleric Tahirul Qadri camping outside the parliament building in Islamabad.
