Awami National Party (ANP) member Senator Haji Adeel Sunday criticised the government for not including any Pakhtoon leader in the delegations constituted to talk with the leadership of Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

Adeel reportedly expressed disappointment that all leaders from Punjab were part of the negotiation team while no Pakhtoon leader was taken onboard.

Referring to reports that PTI has drafted demands to be presented to the government, Adeel said that the government should talk to opposition parties and discuss the demands with them to find a solution.

“The government seems interested in resolving issues through talks,” he said.

He said that ANP supports democracy and urged PTI Chairman Imran Khan and PAT Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri to resume talks with the government rather than resorting to sit-ins.

Adeel said that long march and other violent methods were used in the absence of Constitution or law. “In a country where a constitutional procedure is available for changing the government, carrying out long march and sit-ins has no justification,” he added.

He made it clear that his party would stand by democracy, the country and Constitution, adding that anyone acting against Constitution should be tried for treason.

Adeel said protests and sit-ins are the democratic rights of parties but these should be peaceful.

The ANP senior leader praised the government saying that the government has given an excellent option of constituting a Supreme Court commission and Khan should accept it. He said that ANP is also satisfied with the formation of the commission because it would start probing rigging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as NA-1 in located in the province.
