Whereas some PTI supporters are willing to accept talks between govt and PTI, others, mostly youngsters say they will not settle for anything less than PM’s resignation

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership’s willingness to give up its demand of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation as a pre-requisite to hold talks with the government has brought forth a mixed reaction in the PTI’s supporters staging a sit-in in Islamabad since August 15.

Diehard PTI fan, 56-year-old Khalid Usmani, present at the sit-in staged by PTI supporters outside Parliament House told Pakistan Today that the ideal outcome of the sit-in has to be the resignation of the PM but if it is not achieved then the original demands of PTI, including opening up of ballot boxes must be met.

However he was not ready to settle for mere “future promises”.

While Usmani was ready to give concessions to the government, his 20-year-old daughter Meesha was adamant that the protest should end with nothing short of the PM’s resignation.

“If PTI Chairman Imran Khan ends the protest without getting Sharif’s resignation, I will never attend any such protest again,” said Meesha.

When asked about the slight differences in the views of the father-daughter duo, Usmani said that the younger lot is more aggressive and “a little less patient but politically more active” than the elders.

“I think Khan should keep in mind the feelings of the young members of the PTI family as the youth would be the drivers of the change Khan is fighting for,” Usmani concluded.

Farkhanda, the youngest of a group of three sisters who had come all the way from Karachi to be a part of the PTI sit-in did not like Pakistan Today’s question whether the PTI supporters are ready to accept a solution which allows Sharif to continue as premier.

“It is out of question that we settle for anything less than Sharif’s resignation,” she said.

The eldest, Tahira, said that it is unimaginable that we leave the place without getting our demands fulfilled.

Talking to Pakistan Today, 19-year-old Muhammad Saeed, a resident of Garhi Shahu, Lahore said that he is ready to sacrifice his life on Khan’s call and “if he orders us to invade Parliament, I will not hesitate for a moment to act upon his orders”.

“I have left my job at a shoe factory in Lahore to attend this sit-in and I have spent the Rs 2,500 that I had but I will fight till my last breath for Khan’s cause,” said the passionate youngster.

“I have not eaten anything since morning but I have no complaints. I know that freedom does not come cheap and demands sacrifices. I will go back to Lahore quietly on the orders of my leader even if we fail to get anything out of this situation.”

Saeed expressed the hope that his father, a PML-N supporter, would understand his love for Khan and not be angered by Saeed’s decision to join PTI’s ‘Azadi’ march as he moved away with other young PTI supporters chanting “Go Nawaz, Go!”
