A Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporter detained in the recent police crackdown in Punjab died under mysterious circumstances in Gujranwala Central Jail.

According to reports, 35-year-old Shoaib was a resident of Noor Bawa area of Gujranwala and had left home on the eve of August 13 to attend PAT’s ‘Inqilabi’ march following which he was detained.

However, his family had claimed that he went missing. His relatives said that they searched for Shoaib following his disappearance but could not get any news of his whereabouts.

His family members added that they were informed on Tuesday night about Shoaib’s death by the Gujranwala Central Jail administration.

Subsequently, jail authorities handed the body to Shoaib’s family after conducting a postmortem.

Police sources claim Shoaib died due to a heart attack. However, Shoaib’s brother alleged that the PAT worker was tortured during his detention due to which he died.
