Political leaders termed Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Tahirul Qadri’s demand of the prime minister resignation, dissolution of assemblies and formation of national government absurd and unrealistic, and said these could not be met under the prevailing situation.

“The PM is an elected person and demanding his resignation is totally unjustified,” they observed.

The leaders said that an agenda to derail democratic system had come to light at last. They opined that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should not to succumb to any pressure from the “frustrated and power-hungry” politicians and respond to them effectively.

PML-N Lahore President MNA Pervaiz Malik said that Qadri’s demands were illogical and insult to the mandate of 180 million people of Pakistan. He said, in civilised societies it never happened that a few thousand people carry out march and ask for resignation from an elected prime minister. He said all democratic forces were united and oppose to PAT Chief demands. He made it clear that Nawaz Sharif would not quit the office.

Commenting on Qadri’s charter of demands, Awami National Party (ANP) General Secretary Ahsan Wyne said these were a sheer conspiracy against the democracy and vowed to foil it with the help of democracy-loving forces. He said, under the prevailing situation the country cannot afford departure of democracy. He said, his party would never support any extra-constitutional act.

Lawmakers Imran Nazir, Zaeem Qadri and Azma Bokhari described the PAT Chief’s charter of demands impracticable and said, after a long time democracy had returned to the country. The PML-N, they said had rendered sacrifices for the restoration of democracy. They said the government would not allow any adventurist to grab power. They advised the PAT and PTI leadership to shed their respective long marches and let the government to run and serve the masses dedicatedly.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Finance Secretary Aurengzeb Burki rejecting PAT’s demand of government of national consensus.

He said democratic government must give time to absolve the confronting issues. He said PPP believes in democracy and won’t allow anyone to ambush it. He urged the government to tackle the ‘Azadi’ and ‘Inqilabi’ marches sensibly.

appointment of the members of the Sharifs' clan at any important position.
