An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi rejected on Saturday a petition seeking bail of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) political worker who was accused of being involved in terrorist activities.
Other than murder charges, the convict has been accused of being involved in terrorist activities besides carrying prohibited firearms.
The convict, Islamul Haq, was taken into custody by Rangers from Surjani Town of Karachi which houses people from different ethnicities. There were some severe charges against the MQM worker arrested by Rangers.
Rejecting the petition seeking bail of the terror accused, the court declared that striking similarities have been recorded between the weapons revealed from the accused and the bullets that hit the murder victim. With the present evidences at hand, permission for bail cannot be granted, hence it is rejected, the court ordered.
According to the MQM’s website, the personnel of Super Market Police Station raided the house of Islamul Haq and arrested him in March 24, 2001. Islamul Haq, 27, son of Anwarul Haq, was a worker of MQM Unit 2, Sarjani Town Sector, Karachi.
Earlier in the year 2013, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had condemned the arrest of MQM Surjani Town’s Sector in-charge Islamul Haq and said his party, which had been making efforts for peace and order in the country and the province, was being targeted and its leaders were being arrested on fake charges.
