Islamabad Citizens Committee (ICC) has expressed concern over forthcoming demonstrations of political parties and demanded the government to allocate routes and places for rallies and sit-ins on August 14. He requested political leaders to respect the rights of the citizens. “They must ensure that private and public property is not damaged or destroyed,” he said.
Addressing a press conference at National Press Club (NPC), ICC President Latif Ahmad Rana said residents had expressed serious concerns over frequent processions and demonstrations coming to Islamabad, adding that they had become a threat to normal, peaceful civil and commercial activities in Islamabad.
He said the upcoming rallies on August 14 have already paralysed the city, adding that closure of school, offices, hospitals and businesses was a serious issue about which the residents are concerned.
He said that on August 8, the city witnessed long queues of vehicles at petrol pumps and the owners were reluctant to provide more than a few liters of petrol to each motorist.
The ICC president also demanded of the government to make adequate security arrangements in order to ensure that normal life and commercial activities are not affected by the rallies and sit-ins.
