  • PTI Core Committee sticks to ‘Azadi March’, directs party workers to reach Islamabad ‘come what may’

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Core Committee Sunday resolved to go ahead with the party’s ‘Azadi March’, saying that there should be no doubt in government’s mind that PTI workers and leaders will come to Islamabad even if they have to walk the distance.

The committee resolved that any attempt to arrest party Chairman Imran Khan or take him into ‘safe custody’ will be resisted fully by the party workers and leadership.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, “There will be no compromise on Azadi March. Tomorrow, party chairman will reveal the planned massive rigging that took place in May 2013 elections.”

It was decided during the meeting that PTI will demand Sharifs to compensate all those whose livelihood was impacted by the barriers and impediments, including the owners of containers that were placed by the government to prevent PTI from exercising its democratic right to protest peacefully.

The committee demanded that all containers be removed immediately and petrol stations be opened. It also demanded the Punjab government immediately implement the Lahore High Court’s (LHC)’s order for the release of impounded motorcycles.

Later, talking to reporters, PTI leader Javed Hashmi said that Khan’s arrest would be the biggest blunder of the Nawaz’s government, adding that the PM would be responsible if democracy is derailed.

Talking to reporters, PTI Central Spokesperson Shireen Mazari said, “No container can stop PTI workers from coming to Islamabad to join the Azadi March on August 14. Nawaz Sharf will have to resign.”

She also urged her party’s workers to bring rations and necessary food supplies to Islamabad for the sit-in.
