Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that there was no motive other than counter-terrorism that has led to the imposition of Article 245 in Islamabad.

Khan, speaking at the floor of the National Assembly, said that the invoke clause in the capital had no links with any political party, protest rally while adding that the government had no motives to use military for political motives.

“The clause has been invoked 24 times since its inception in 2007 and the approval of  Parliament was never sought,” he said, adding that according to the available records no political parties were consulted at the events.

Earlier on Tuesday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that army had been called only to protect the citizens.

‘If the Parliament unanimously opposed the invocation of Article 245,the government might consider the matter again”, said Asif.

The government has received criticism for implementing Article 245 in Islamabad to summon the armed forces by opposition parties including Pakistan People’s Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Qaumi Watan Party , Awami Muslim League, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League – Zia.

Opposition leader in National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah warned that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will launch a more aggressive agitation than Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government does not reconsider its decision.

  1. Govt is lying. The law and order situation in other parts of the country is much worse than Islamabad yet Army has not been called. If they lie about one thing, they will lie about everything. Nawaz has always been a coward and he is scared to death that somebody may topple his govt and put him in jail again. last time he was in jail, he cried. The video is on youtube. A nation led by a coward is doomed to fail.
