Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General (r) Mohammad Alam Khattak as defence secretary, stated a Defence Ministry notification issued on Monday.
Khattak replaces Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik, who retired from his position last week after completion of his contract.
Khattak has served on key positions in the military including Quetta Corps commander, Peshawar Frontier Corps inspector general and logistics chief at General Headquarters. He retired from army service last year.
