Special Assistant to Prime Minister for National Affairs Irfan Siddiqui has said Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Tahirul Qadri’s “threats to kill” are unprecedented in the history of Pakistan and are an “open declaration of civil war”.

In response to Qadri’s press conference on Sunday, Siddiqui said that no civilised nation can tolerate the threat of killing of 14 people in return for the death of an equal number of people, and by doing so, Qadri has exposed his real designs. He said Pakistan was a civilised state with a constitution, laws and an independent judiciary and the best way for Qadri was to seek justice from courts.

Siddiqui said such intentions were expressed by a person whose objective was to “satisfy his ego and take revenge”. He said Qadri should tell people what wrongs he wanted to avenge from the Pakistan and its people.

Siddiqui said that if Qadri’s mission was to take revenge from the present government he should have targeted the government, adding that Qadri “wanted to take this war to roads and streets of the country, which no religion and society could permit”.
