*Eidul Fitr observed with religious fervour

The faithful observed Eidul Fitr with religious zeal and fervour amid tight security, invoking Allah Almighty’s blessings for peace, progress, prosperity and stability in the country.

Eid congregations were held at historic Badshahi Mosque, Data Darbar Mosque, Nasir Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Minar-e-Pakistan, Model Town Park, Jamia Naeemia, Jamia Ashrafia, Idara Minhajul Hussain, Jamia-tul-Muntazir Model Town, Jamia Qadisia Chouburji, Jamia Mosque Mansoorah and many other places where thousands of faithful gathered and sought forgiveness from the God for their sins.

Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar offered Eid prayers at Badshahi Mosque while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif offered Eid prayers at Model Town Ittefaq Mosque. National Assembly National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq offered Eid prayers at Jamia Naeemia.

Ulema and religious scholars in their sermons highlighted the importance and festivity of Eid day after the holy month of Ramazan. They also prayed for the unity of Muslim Ummah and liberation of Palestine from Israeli subjugation and people of occupied Kashmir from Indian yoke.

Ulema also paid tribute to the armed forces fighting against terrorists. They prayed for the martyrs of the army and for successful completion of the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan Agency, urging the faithful and philanthropists to come forward and donate generously for the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Foolproof arrangements were made in the city for the security of mosques and imambargahs, keeping in view prevailing situation in the country.

Around 10,000 policemen including personnel of elite force, quick response force and others under the supervision of all divisional SPs were performing duties while 350 lady policemen were also on security duty.

The Lahore Acting CCPO deployed additional policemen at trade and shopping centres, Eidgahs, imambargahs and recreational places, while an effective strategy had also been adopted to eradicate street crimes.

Besides, the Rescue-1122 teams remained on high alert to provide quick relief and rescue services, besides medical cover to citizens across the district, in case of any emergency.

A spokesman for traffic police said that 12 DSPs, 90 inspectors, 250 patrolling officers and about 1,800 traffic wardens under the supervision of three SPs performed duties to maintain proper flow of traffic.

However, additional traffic officials including two DSPs, 24 inspectors, 96 traffic wardens and 13 patrolling officers had been deputed on roads, he added.
